yet again more commentary on video games and violence. there was a political cartoon in many newspapers this morning that criticized video games and, ignorantly, stereotyped the mode of entertainment. penny arcade has some very good points regarding the issue and even provide a counter-comic to send in to the editorial sections of the readers' local papers.
nothing like waking up before 7 to go deal with your grandma and the dentist after that. i wasn't in the best of moods when i woke up this morning, but now i'm not so bad. stopping by the house to relax, eating poptarts, and watching part of The Big Lebowski fixed that right up. i want to go over to jessica's and be with her, but i'll just have to wait until she gets off work.
last night jessica and i watched some old muppet shows on tape. those shows are classic, but i wanted to talk about one in particular. the harry belafonte episode was probably the best one ever. he performed 2 of his songs (both the first time he'd ever performed them on television). it was excellent. the best thing about the episode is the feeling it produced in me as a viewer. watching that episode forced me to be happy and smile. i've only had that happen once before: the first time i watched Amelie. anyway, the closing song that he performed was pretty awesome. he had african tribal masked muppets singing along with him...you know what? how about you listen to it yourself (6.0mb). it begins with harry explaining the origins of the song with fozzie.
one quick thing: more gigli news! (link may only work for today). imdb has an article about the upcoming kevin smith movie Jersey Girl. here's the article:
"J.Lo Ends Up on Cutting Room Floor
The failure of Gigli has enabled director Kevin Smith to rejigger his upcoming Jersey Girl into the kind of movie he had originally conceived -- one that features Ben Affleck as a single father raising a young daughter, the New York Times reported today (Monday). Until unfavorable reviews of Gigli began to roll in, Smith had been prevailed upon to expand the role of the girl's mother, played by Jennifer Lopez, in order to take advantage of the publicity surrounding the Affleck-Lopez romance. Smith told the Times that he began trimming Lopez's scenes after Jersey Girl tested poorly with preview audiences. But, he said, Miramax co-chairman Harvey Weinstein "was always 'Let's leave as much of Jennifer in because we paid her $4 million for the movie.'" Her character now dies in the movie's first 15 minutes, the Times said."
pretty funny, if you ask me. one other thing that i just saw while finding these links. there's a movie in the works based on my favorite comic series of all time, Preacher. the best part of the news is who's directing it. the answer is kevin smith. i can't wait to see this movie. so far, the only person billed to be in the movie is the guy who played cyclops in the x-men movies...he's supposed to be jesse custer, so i'd like to see how it turns out.
that's it for now, out.
