i plan on another entry quite soon, what with the numerous gaming anniversaries that have come up in the past few months. this post, however, is to detail the latest event in the lifespan of infinium/phantom, my favorite non-existing dead horse to beat.
we last left the phantom when it changed its name from infinium to phantom entertainment. prior to that, though, infinium's founder had been accused of illegally inflating infinium's stock values.
today's chapter comes courtesy of joystiq. it's a tale of high adventure where the console-that-never-existed is actually never going to exist. that's right, according to this article the mission of phantom entertainment is no longer to enter the console realm and turn things around, but instead to venture into broadband gaming services.
their official website states that phantom entertainment is "the first end-to-end, on-demand game service delivering online games directly to your living room or any comfortable setting in your home or workplace." through a windows xp pc, that is. yeah, ok...that's a large claim, but what about this gametap thing that's been gathering a susbstantial user base, tons of games from all sorts of systems, and already launched back in october, almost a full year prior to phantom's claim? also, according to gametap's front page, they are "broadband gaming network with over 500 games." once again infinium/phantom is living in a bubble. and that's it for now.
