I've come to Houston to start the second act of my life, so to speak. There's something fascinating about the Center. In post-colonial terms, the Center references the Empire. If the colonized traveled to the Center, they would see the purest of all the ideals, etiquette, fashion, and behavior, which had been interwoven into every aspect of their colonized culture. Houston is the Center of capitalism. All of the qualities that allow it such a title are here: Oil, natural gas, big business, endless shopping areas, advertisements, industry upon industry and more restaurants than Star Jones could comprehend. There's a cold, dettachment, which accompanies consumerism because anything positive has a negative, and capitalism is no exemption. It's that reason why I've come here, to see if I can endure and prosper in such a place. If I can do that, than I can conquer. Plus, this city is a lot of fun, if you have the money.
