struggle for power

As an English major I find it quite annoying when in a 300 level class people still feel the need to ask how many words and/or pages the papers need to be. Okay, you had to have taken Eng 101 and 102. It is required before taking any other English class. You learned in there that an average paper for a class is between 3 and 6 pages. Do not ask the professor how long the paper needs to be for Pete’s sake. If I were the professor I would tell that student that their paper has to be twice that length because of asinine questions like that. I cannot stand that shit. If you are in an upper level English class you need to know what you are talking about. If you just shut up and write you will be surprised at what comes out. That person who asks the length question is going to be the person who half-asses the paper and has it at just the length called for. Gah!
I have a story I have been working on. It is a social satire tragedy. I am debating whether or not to post it in its entirety or parts to see what people think of it. I have talked with my husband about setting up a page for me to post my academic papers, poetry and prose. In my own little circle I am considered a good writer, not that I am freekin’ brilliant or anything, but I am a slightly big fish in a small pond. I am afraid if I go out into the big pond I will be eaten in a humiliating, crying like a bitch with a skinned knee kind of way. But my professors seem to like my writing style and I am one of about 5 people in the English Literature program that knows what is going on, and that is saying something. There are a lot of Eng Lit majors that have no clue and they are going into education. This does not give me hope for the future children.
The house hunting continues. Please send good house finding mojo our way. We have one house we really like, but the price is a bit too much for us right now. If we could knock off about six grand it would be perfect, but we are still looking. I am also on the job hunt. I can’t have this part time job forever. I love my job most of the time. It would be perfect if it weren’t for the patrons. But libraries aren’t my scene anymore. I have worked in one for 5 years and I have learned everything I can from them. I am ready to move on. Anyone know of a kick ass job? I love research and would love to do research for someone. It would challenge me and not stifle me creatively. That’s all I am asking for, a challenging job that would be fun and not stifle my creativity. Perhaps my expectations are a bit high for this region.

Hi Jessica! Why don't you post some of the "stuff" you write on the smoking section? It would be nice to read them. I also like the well written english and portuguese. I hate when I see the people who studies with and will graduate soon writing absords. Of course I can write much better in portuguese and want to write a small book in the future. I believe that there are some things all human being should do at least once in their life, such as plant a tree and write a book. I love trees, the big and pretty ones, I planted a "pau-brasil" in my house about a year ago, our Nation's name origins from this tree and that sad part is that its not commom to see them around.
Okay, that's it.

I'd really like to read your academic papers. I think you should set that page up. Of course, I'm a dork... but luckily for you I think everyone else you know is, too, so you should have a ready-made fan base.

You can be MY research assistant. Go look up "To the Angel Spirit of the Most Excellent Sir Philip Sidney" and see if you can figure out why in the hell anyone would ever give a fuck about it.
