Nerds, Dorks, Freaks, and Punks unite!

Question: When did being smart become cool? When did the word “freak” being yelled out of a passing car become “there’s a unique individual”? The coded language of comic books and video games has been deciphered and can no longer be used as it once was. The choir dorks and the band nerds have taken over the school, jocks left in their wake. Insecure girls are finding solace in the pocket protector of their boyfriend; they look at their reflection in his coke bottle glasses and fix their hair. They giggle and hold on tighter whenever frags, dungeon masters, and thirtieth level trolls are mentioned. They look at the dice and yearn for twenty instead of seven. The Goth kids now hang out at Barnes and Noble, not to mention the punks. If they realized what they are implying they are, they would never hang out at Barnes and fucking Noble. At one point the Goths and punks could only be found among the late night drug stores, at a friend’s house (this was called a den) and in the late night places you could LARP (live action role playing) and play Duke Nuke ‘Em and Castle Wolfenstein until midnight or later. Barnes and Noble is a corporate bastard (they have a Starbucks for Christ’s sake!) they charge way too much for books, magazines, movies, music and coffee. Your poor asses do not need to be there.
The cons are packed full of people who have been infected, the ones who have turned. They just recently found out what it is to be a dork. They rented all the Star Trek, Babylon 5, Dr. Who, X-Files, Star Wars, comic book adaptation movies they can and prepare to become a nerd, dork, freak, or punk. This is a pattern that has to stop. I am in the last generation when nerds, dorks, freaks, and punks were not cool. We were ridiculed, beaten up, and left out. Because of this we (well, most of us) have risen above the drama and angst that goes along with being a “well adjusted student/person”. We are the ones rising into power. The market is flooded and the dork stock is plummeting. I don’t know what we can do about this. It seems like a blessing, but with so many of us out there (or so it seems) we will starve. It doesn’t seem right to me. Everything just seems less enjoyable since being a Dork, Goth, Punk or Nerd is cool. I now have to hunt harder and longer for the things that will entertain me.

dr. who sucks. i said it. i'll say it again. dr. who sucks.

do you remember "freaks nerds and weirdos? from when mtv wasn't the devil? it seemed all comforting all full of hope and solace then, but now that i think about it it was really just the first step in the endoctrination process.
i probably didn't help, eiher. i used to go to the football players' keg-parties in NIN shirts, with purple hair and black eyeliner. they were desensitized. it's my fault. i should have made them pay for their homework with money and not beer.

i'm sorry. i'll throw myself into the fireplace. (re-read p.451 of half-blood prince. and think about "snatch.")
