Holy shit. We are all going to die. No doubt about it.
Now, space is cool. It is the unknown. It has been the inspiration for millions of people, past and present. Astrophysicist, astronomers, science fiction writers, artists, geeks and nerds everywhere never really felt comfortable here on Earth. They all wanted to go into space for exploration and maybe salvation. It has been a place of learning and awe. I have been completely enthralled with the Opprotunity and Spirit missions to mars. The nerd in me gets excited about things like soil being stuck to the wheels of Opprotunity. Is it mud? We don't know! That would be awesome. Who would have ever thought that something that might be mud would be exciting to me.
However, our government is looking into spending a total of $145.4 million in research to fuck it all up. /. (Slashdot) had an article posted on the 20th about the air force's plans for war in space. The article is on Wired News and can be found in full here. Here's an excerpt from that article that kinda gives you an idea as to what they are wanting to do:
"As we look to the future, space is where our adversaries are looking to cut us off," Kucharek said. "We know from the attempted jamming of our GPS (global positioning system, which relies on satellites) during OIF (Operation Iraqi Freedom) that our enemies are going to try to deny us from using space."'
Earth, however, is the problem with the "Operation Obliteration" (my own name for it). If something were to happen, and it would, all kinds of problems would occur. Let's say a nuclear (that's noo-klee-er, Mr. Bush, Jeesey Chreesey, at least be able to pronounce the way you are going to kill us all) explosion or malfunction happens in "near-earth space". What are the happy times that are going to occur after that? Well, not too many. Not very nice out in nuclear winter. The earth's gravity wouldn't save us from the explosion in space. It would cause more problems I would think. More time to get into the atmosphere and cause us to grow extra appendages and stuff. It would suck everything to the earth. So i was in the drug store today to pick up some medicine because I am sick, and I hear an old song on the speakers. "Blowing Kisses in the Wind" by Paula Abdul. I started thinking about the late 80's early 90's when Paula was at her highest and remembered a video that I saw back in the day when MTV played music videos. I couldn't remember the song so I looked it up on the internet. The song was called "Rush, Rush" and Keanu Reeves was in the video. He was the kid from the streets that wore the leather letterman jacket who wanted the girl next door (Paula) who just so happen to be the rich girl. So he sneeks in her house and they make out and her boyfriend finds out so natuarally they have to play a game of chicken with expensive old cars to get the girl. Keanu jumps out at the last minute and gets the girl because her boyfriend is dead at the bottom of the ravine. She and Keanu kiss and walk off to live happily ever after. Damn, videos are weird.
Two weeks. Two weeks. I have two weeks remaining before I turn from Jessica Hatem to Jessica Herr. Intense. Kinda like a rabbit in a hat. The rabbit goes in, but a dove comes out. Magic.
This has been an interesting weekend to say the least. Friday the thirteen started off badly, but I think it ended ok. I went to the doc on thursday to test my teeth. They are still alive. Good news. Friday i go back to the oral surgeon and he is wanting to go in slicing at my gums. Uh, no. I am wanting a second opinion on this thing. The doc i went and saw about the vitality of my teeth said that I should wait at least six months before doing anything because my bone may heal, like you do, and everything may be fine. Contradictory stories from two doctors. I need another one to tell me what is going on.
After I was done with the oral surgeon I went to Steve's Marina to give them the menu and talk about how I wanted to room set up. They were awesome. They are decorating it and setting it all up with candles and blue linens and it sounds like it is going to be beautiful. Meanwhile, I had locked my keys in my car and had to call my dad to pick me up to go and get the spare. Fun stuff. The rest of that day went well, though. Valentine's day Joel and I went to lunch with Shanna and then went to the Thrift store and Game X-Change. I suppose they are the X-treme game store. We picked up quite a few original NES games like the TMNT Arcade Game, Dr. Mario, Duck Hunt (which doesn't work and we need to take back), and I think it is called Hogan's Alley or something like that. We went back to his place to play the games and wait for the Womanless Beauty Pagent to start. It was so funny. They guys that were dressed up seemed to be having a little too much fun, but it was all in good humour and everyone had a great time. Best of all it raised over $3,000 for a member of the church that has cancer and is going for treatment in Houston at M.D. Anderson to help wth living expenses. One of the guys in the pagent had a transvestite friend who performs all over the U.S. and has shows quite often in New Orleans help him dress up, and it was the most incredible outfit you would ever see in a church. I will have to post some pictures of it if i can get a hold of some. Yesterday we went to the Long Beach parade, but it was too cold and windy to stay so we ended up leaving as soon as we got there. It was a nice walk though. It's rare you can walk around your town without worrying about cars and things.
My favorite show, X-Play is having a special show tomorrow night, i think. It is X-Play goes Old School and they are going to be looking at older gaming systems. I think it is going to be great. If you have Tech TV you should watch it. I think that is it for me. I have to run to work. Later...
Leave it to me to have weird things happen to my body. Yeah, apparently, my front three teeth aren't holding on to anything. My gums and apparently their will to continue living in my mouth are the only things holding them in. I have had bone loss due to either an infection or a cyst and now I have to have something done about it. I am going to a dentist this morning to have the teeth tested to see if they are still alive. I am sure that test will be fun. Not as fun as them hooking small electrodes to my muscles from my toes to my neck when i was 8, but fun none-the-less. Yeah, You know the shock you get when you touch a doorknob on a dry day? Times that by about 100 and that's what that felt like. Luckily it is only three teeth. Jeeze, and I wonder why i am so bitter sometimes. Shock the fuck out of a girl when she's 8 and see how pleasant she is when she turns 23. Haha.
I don't think the sun is ever going to come out again. It has been horribly dreary as of late and my mental well being is being effected beacuse of it. Me complaining. Not a very interesting read.
I am almost finished with one of the books in my stacks. I read a lot of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's nest yesterday and I am almost finished with it. It is a very good book. I would like to watch the movie soon since I have yet to see it. Joel absolutely loves it.
Just so everyone knows, there is 2 weeks and a couple of days until the wedding. I am so getting excited. My black cat, Englebert is sitting in my lap while i type looking at me longingly to play with him. I better go. Later...
I just realized that The Last Unicorn taught me how to peel potatoes. Joel's mom sounds like the Skeleton from that movie when she talks about her "wiiiine". It's cute.
I would like to make an announcement to everyone who reads my page and to my fiance (because he has to set it up for me, which will be no problem I am sure since he is growing more powerful than you would ever imagine in computer and web knowledge. I am so proud of him.) that I would like a page for a sort of writer's feedback. I have been coming up with a few ideas for stories among other things that I would like various feedback from. I would also like people to submit things to get feedback. I am always stuck in the same rut when it comes to the things that I try to write. I consider myself a writer, but I don't have all that much to show for it. I am sure other people feel the same way and I think that feedback from different perspectives would be a positive thing. Let me know what you think. I know it won't happen overnight, but I think it would be cool to do sometime. That is all.
Whilst surfing around I found somethings that will make you laugh a bit. Celebrity booze ads on Modern Drunkard. I was just scrolling through them and, damn they are funny. As the website states, "They would if they could, but they can't, so we will." Hehe. I will leave you with that. Later...
I arrived at the library amongst confusion. It was 8:50 a.m. (the library opens at 9 a.m.) and there were two long lines at both the north and the south door of people waiting to get in the library. There is a book sale today and people wanted to buy old ratty books for a quarter or a dime as soon as the doors opened. It has been pandamonium ever since. I got some stuff done though. i think i finished the bridal registery thing and I typed up a revision to my paper for my women writers class. I am planning on shelving and chilling for the rest of the afternoon. So far it has gone quite smoothly. Enough people to keep me busy but not enough to have me running around like a chicken with my head cut off. The day goes by quickly when you are having fun.
Hehehe. Hey, Shan, we just sent someone over to your library for tax stuff. Hehe. If you library is better than my library, prove it! (insert wicked grin and wringing of hands here)
So I think that is about it for now. Perhaps an addition will come later, but not now. I am off to lose myself in the stacks of books. later....
addition:
What the FUCK?!?!?!?!?!
I went to the store today and the woman behind me in line was buying a loaf of Jewish bread and a large ham. No lie.
My Religion professor likened the world's religions to a chaotic squirrle. He's a strange guy. I want to be a chaotic squirrle. I'm a strange girl. (Well, at least for a pet.)
I am reading Little Women for my American Women Writers course and I kinda like it. Well, I kinda like Jo. I am only about 50 pages into it, I need to get a move on, actually, but it is good none the less. A similar situation happened when I read Jane Eyre a couple of years ago. I found that I enjoyed it. Surprise.
Joel got Prince of Persia from Gamefly yesterday. He said he played it for a little while last night and thought it was going to be pretty cool. Neato tricks and stuff.
Joel and I watched the 'Sky Turtles' from the Turtle videos I recieved. I forgot how much I loved that show. It still holds the humour and the campy-ness. The keyboard striking up the theme song when the Turtles are about to beat up Shredder/Rocksteady/BeBop/The Foot/Krang is the greatest. I am 7 all over again. We watched April's Fool the other night. It was a wonderful trip down nostalgia lane.
I was thinking about trying the South Beach Diet. Has anyone else been on it? I want to get a better control of my body's levels and I have heard good things about it. The only problem I would have with it is the whole no bread thing. I love bread. I don't want to give it up. But in the long run I think it would be better.
Are you allowed to bring small dogs in a library. Like Greasy Reesey and her stupid looking blonde rat she had in that movie. I don't even want to utter it's name. Consequently, people check out both the original movie and the sequel quite often at my library. Well, I think that is about it for me. Later....
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! Turtles in a half shell! Turtle Power!
Yeah. I got some TMNT episodes from the library the other day and Joel and I watched them to our delight. They are old tapes, from the Burger King Kids Club marketing ploy. We have 3 of the 4 episodes. Collect them all.
Wedding date getting closer. I am getting excited. Everything is totally different. Isn't it amazing how much can happen in a year?
Joel has been writing about Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga. It is a good game and he is hoggin it. I haven't gotten to play it in a while. I was ahead of him, but he has had it for the last week so he is now futher than i am.
We are going to be receiving Prince of Persia soon. Joel bought Mario Kart for the gamecube so Gamefly is sending us the next game on the list.
Bookchick on Diaryland had this cool entry yesterday and i would like to share it with you here. It will be hilarious for people who have worked, or know people who work, in a library. It is so right on. I printed it out and shared it with my co-workers and they laughed their asses off. Thats about it for me right now I think. Busy, busy little bee I am. Molls and trolls molls and troll work work work work work.
Fuck, February already. Jeezey Chreesey time flies when you are busy as hell. So i spent my weekend on pain killers. I had to go to the oral surgeon to get a cyst looked at. it is on my gums and the doc was just going to take a sample, clean it up a bit and send me on my way. no stitches no hassel. So when he went in to do all that his plans changed and I ended up with three stitches and some pain killers which i took because that shit hurts.
Joel and I listened to a really cool story by Gaimen. Two Plays for Voices and I totally reccommend it. Very good listen. The second story in the set, Murder Mystery was the best story out of the two in my opinion, but Snow Glass Apples wasn't bad either. You should check it out.
We got presents! Joel and I had a wedding shower that his church did for us and we got a load of cool stuff. Wedding are cool because people give you stuff. If you would like to buy us stuff we are registered at Bed Bath and Beyond and Pier One. Hehehe. I had this girl that I worked with at the college library beg me to invite her to my wedding. What is it about weddings that people want to be invited to them? No. It is my day and, well, quite frankly I don't want you to be there. I am going to extend an invite to all my fellow co-workers past and present to the party we are having to celebrate our marriage, but that's it.
Dad and I watched this horrible movie on tele the other day. Revenge of the Ninja. At one point there was a Native American and a Ninja fighting in an alley. After a couple of minutes this other guy comes out of nowhere and starts fighting, too. i don't think he was working with either of the other guys b/c he was just kicking ass with no prejudice. It was pretty bad.
I am reading several books at the moment and all are holding my attention on a regular basis: Lemony Snicket: A Bad Begining, Midnight for Charlie Bone, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (comic trade), Fluke or I Know Why the Caged Whale Sings, and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Not to mention the books for school like religion, sociology, economics and whatever book I have to read for American Women Writers. I think the next one is Little Women. I need to get that.
I miss Joel. I was up late last night studying for my economics test and I just kind of sat there in my room for a while missing him. It seems like the closer we get to the wedding the less I get to spend time with him. That was just alittle side note, you can disregard it.
I think that is it for me right now. have fun. Later.....
