Christmas was good to me this year. I have an awesome family on both sides and they are all helping us as much as they can.
I have been reading Wil Wheaton's book Just a Geek and it makes me laugh and cry at the same time.
I have begun to grow weary of the public. Through my education I have seen nothing but the progress of the human race, as grim and horrible as it can be from time to time, and I thought the natural way is progression. However, the general public, the average person: high school graduate (barely most likely) blue collar worker, middle class house with three kids and a dog seems to be degressing. It is a downward spiral that can't be stopped due to the weight of the problem.
Disclaimer: I am not saying that anyone who does not have at least some college education is dumb. Quite the contrary. I realize college is not for everyone. You can be a very intelligent, well read person and never set foot onto a college campus, I am sure. I am talking about the mindless drones. The sheep. The people who will believe anything because they saw it on Fox News. Mainly the people who take things for face value. Nothing is face value, ever. It is either less or more than what you expected.
Political tangent:
Nine out of ten college and university professors who are in the college of arts (meaning liberal arts or as my retarded college calls it 'The College of Arts and Letters') would consider themselves Green Party, Marxist, or in some other way affiliated with the left. Nine out of ten. All of my professors in my major are 'crazy commies' as they are called from time to time, and I agree with them. I can't not agree with them. Americans, however, do not agree.
Example:
Chile elected a Marxist president: Salvador Allende. The first Marxist president to be elected. The people actually chose this one. Once the rule of a Marxist was apparent guess what the U.S. did? We help stage a coup. Many people died because they were "free thinkers". Actually, died is a light word for what happened. People were round up into soccer stadiums, shot in the head and their bodies were dynamited. Their bodies were vaporized. Why do you think our government is so afraid of free thinkers?
Now the issue of traditional values is coming up. Bush won the election because of "traditional values". Can I ask what traditional values are? What is traditional for me may not be traditional for you. Who are they to say what I can and can not do? Who are they to say what is tradition for me? I suppose they can come back and say the ten commandments, but what good are they? Thou shall not kill. Oops. Sorry, we kinda fucked that one up. Ok. Thou shall not steal. Oh, damn. That one, too. Thou shall not covet they neighbors ox, etc. Oh, wait. We are coveting land and oil and money that isn't ours. Ok. So three down. We may as well fuck the rest of it.
What was the point of this entry? Oh, yeah. People are stupid.
I know the legend of King Arthur from the 12th Century to current times. I know what postmodernism is and how it affects the modern novel. I know what neo-colonialism is and how it works. I have written over thirty papers, read twenty books and the semester is finally at its end. I feel like I should graduate now, but I still have nine more hours until that dream comes true. As far as I am concerned though, this was my last semster. I can do the 200 level English classes I have next semester in my sleep at this point.
I just bought some toys for the kids over at Child's Play and you should, too. It looks like they have about $175,000 and their goal is 300,000. What is Child's Play? Well, it is a bunch of gamers, like myself and my husband, getting together and helping ill children. Last year the guys over at Penny Arcade started it up and raised over $250,000 worth of toys and games for the children at the Seattle Children's hospital. This year they wanted to make it better so they extended it to Children Hospitals all across the US. I have a personal interest in this because I went to the Texas Children's Hospital in Houston, Texas when i was eight, and that is one of the hospitals on the list. Each hospital put together a wish list on Amazon.com that has the toys and games that the kids want for Christmas. The Child's Play link will bring you to all that information. I encourage you to do this. I know what is was like to be in a hospital for weeks on end. Bored and lonely. I was one of the lucky ones, too. I got out. Some of those kids may not get out of the hospital and some have known nothing but hospitals. So stop reading this and go and help a kid, ok? I did all the work for you for christ's sake. Clicky clicky!!!
